November!

Ok! so island life is continuing to treat me well, the days off make up for having to work in a retail store from 9 to 5 everyday!! if i wasn't in such a gorgeous place then i would be bored out of my mind! i am ready to go home now and be ready for christmas and spend time with family and friends and all that good stuff! it is weird being here on the island and everyday is 30 celsius and sooo hot, but it is messing me up cause it is meant to be cold and windy and rainy! sunny skies in november is so strange!! but im not complaining! This last sunday i got home from church and me and the roomies went to our favourite beach called sandy bay and this time we went there were 6 foot waves which is the biggest we have seen so far here! i guess Caribbean waters are generally quite calm! i need to take my surf board with me next time! :)

Yes that is right in the middle of the Caribbean i found a London bus! and on the front of it the destination is hammersmith!! so how that thing got all the way over to st.thomas i dont know but i drove past it like the third week we were here and only just now did we pull over and actually get a picture with it! a little slice of home in the virgin islands! it is now home to a bbq restaurant which i am sure i will get to try at some point!

Ok so the picture above is of me on the safari which is what we call a taxi! i find it weird calling it a taxi cause were not in africa! but either way it is basically a dodge dakota with seats screwed into the pick up section on the back! it was bumpy but a great experience! We named the driver charles, he drove like a mad man.
underneath is a pic taken from the safari and it is a pic overlooking the beach on st.john! the place is just gorgeous! and i fully intend on living on this island one day!

At first i thought these guys were missionaries!! haha..i thought of the parade i went to with the whettons in utah and there was like 50 elders in it. doing the haka! Gotta love utah!

so yes i am standing in the middle of the parade right now but i had to get a quick picture of me and the marching band! i had some big black lady telling me to get out of the way but i had to get my picture with the marching band! i am sure under her breath she was like "flipping tourists" haha..
this all took place right outside our workplace so of course we all dropped what we were doing and went outside to watch what was going on! it was a friday afternoon so any excuse to get out of the store right?!!

It's been a while...so lots to say! Well Del Sol has continued to treat me well! my feet hurt alot less now i have got used to standing up all day long! It is just getting into the busy season now so we will have at least one ship in port everyday beginning in november! thank goodness that is my last month here! we will have up to 7 ships in port through november! and you should see it when there are that many people here its crazy!
My roommate houston shew me this free app on my iphone called heytell which you can just send voice messages for free so that helps me keep in contact with family and friends. my mum even managed to work it out !!

Ok so this is the infamous Hooters! We dont have too much of a nightlife here on the island and it gets dark pretty quick so we basically just go eat! and on monday night for family night me and houston go to Hooters! It's all you can eat chicken night too so it works out pretty well for us! So we took this pic just to document our weekly trips to hooters were real! ;)

As always we have been exploring the island! the pictures above are of maegan's bay, it is a gorgeous beach and is the longest beach on the island. it's cool but not my favourite but i have found my new favourite beach! it is called sandy bay and i am going to include a bunch of pictures from it below. it is over by a place called botany bay and it's a gated community and a long walk through all the rich peoples land but when you get down to it, it is my idea  of paradise! the water is like a swimming pool, the sand clean and white and on the odd occasion there are waves which are so clear you can see right through them! and great snorkeling too!

Well it has been a great week in the virgin islands! We had alot of sales in the store this week which was great! On wednesday we had three ships in port and it was the busiest day of the season so far! we took in Del Sol just over $10,200 just in one day it was crazy! i was worked off my feet! so we beat our monthly goal by just over 10% which entitles us to a nice bonus!

Me and houston had our day off today and it was a welcome break from work! We decided to go and find a secluded beach which was meant to be one of the best beaches on the island.
After a 15-20 minute walk on a tiny path through the jungle we finally arrived at the beach.

Secluded was definately the word to describe it! It was pretty and all but there was seaweed all over the joint!
It was too much work for paradise! ha..Here are some pics from it..

St.Thomas doesn't just house some of the best beaches in the world but has some great old churches and Governement buildings that have been around from when they were happened upon by no other than a bunch of Englishmen in 1607.

Yes..we have our own pirate ship! :)

September is the middle of hurricane season here on the island and they weren't joking it rains here like no other! this was the view from work's front door! the heavens literally open and the roads become a bit more like rivers! It means i havent seen to much of the sun this last week but i am sure there is more to come soon!

Of course me and houston at work! i'm not sure what face we were both meant to be pulling!?

This is me and the Del Sol famous Bev! She's a local from the island and she is hilarious! Me and houston sing and dance with her and to her all the time and she loves it! shes great fun and also thinks herself to be a bit of a gangster! ha..

Ships, Sun, Sand and Sleep.

So the last few days have literally flown by and i can feel that my time here in St.Thomas is going to go quicker than i thought it would! Which is a good thing and a bad thing..When i finish here in the caribbean i get to go home for two weeks which i am really looking forward to cause i get to see the fam and my friends back home!
So today i worked 10 till 3...easy! Then we went to explore a new beach. Marriott hotel beach. It was gorgeous and unlike most places on the island it had some waves. so we spent about three hours topping up the tan and catching the waves. Most enjoyable!
I was having lunch on wednesday and i managed to snap a quick picture of two of the three cruise liners that were in dock for the day. When they are here the place is packed and its like downtown London but when the ships aren't here it's dead!

View from the top of the Marriott hotel's beach!

Haha..This is my roommate houston! He is not always this lazy. He may hate me for putting this on here but i'm sure he will laugh! Let's just say working retail gets the best of him after a long day! He's a funny chap and i love working with him.

Hard Day's Work.

So..this is me and houston on a pretty boring day in the store! haha..yes that is the look of two hard working young men on a tropical island! It was soo slow today! We have 3 Cruise ships coming into port tomorrow which is the most that i have seen so far since being here! so it is looking like a busy day ahead! Got an email from my bro serving his mission in estonia. Love email's from him on Monday's!

Me and houston had family home evening in hooters tonight cause they have all you can eat chicken wings ha! so after that we decided to go up to one of the highest points on the island and this is view from the top! Gorgeous!

Lazy sunday afternoons

Uh! Sunday afternoons.. you gotta love them! So me and houston went to our little branch here on the island and of course there a few interesting characters! But it is nice enough!
This picture was taken by houston last night after we were meant to have a hurricane here on the island. But! it never came so we were on the slightly bored side so we went outside and he messed around with his camera and this is what he came up with!
Me and the roomates have been watching or should i say been addicted to a show called Dexter. It keeps our nights occupied! It gets dark here at like 730 so we tune in every night to watch some dexter! Next on the T.V watching list is Lost!
